HPSMG GROUP SPEAKER MEETINGS:

It has certainly been a challenging summer for all gardeners this year and we look forward to seeing you and chatting to you all on Monday, 5 September for our first autumn Speaker Meeting. We will be welcoming Colin Oakes who is a professional archaeologist and speaker on many topics. His talk to us on Monday will be on ‘Digging for Britain – Allotments and Gardens’.

On 3 October 2022, we very much look forward to welcoming Chelsea gold medal winner, Annie Godfrey of Daisy Roots Nursery, Hertfordshire which specialises in hardy perennials and grasses. The topic will be ‘Winter Colour in Your Garden’.

On 7 November, our speaker will be founding member of the British and International Clematis Society, Everett Leeds, to talk to us on ‘Herbaceous Clematis and Clematis Throughout the Year’.

On 5 December our speaker will be Barry Gayton whose topic will be ‘Succulents’.

There is no meeting in January and we start the year again in February 2023 followed by our AGM in March 2023 and in April Darren Lerigo from Modern Mint will talk to us on: ‘The Skills You Need to Prune Well’. Lynn has worked hard on the speaker list and is currently organising speakers and trips for 2023. We will keep members up to date as dates and final arrangements are confirmed, and Lynn will also up-date us more on progress at our speaker meeting this Monday.

HPSMG TRIPS AND OUTINGS:

HPS CONSERVATION SCHEME

A reminder to all those members who took part in the conservation scheme by taking plants to monitor and propagate. We would now like the feedback and any plants propagated from the original plant for our September meeting together with a brief note as to how they were propagated and details on soil conditions i.e. heavy or sandy etc, if the plant was in shade or sun. It does not matter if the plant died or did not thrive as it all helps to contribute to the wider knowledge of what conditions the plant requires to grow well. All information will be passed onto the national scheme data base.

HPSMG PHOTO COMPETITION FOR DECEMBER MEETING

We look forward to holding the Photo Competition again this year at our Monday, 5 December 2022 meeting. Please bring along your photograph to the Group Meeting on 5 December 2022 when the members present will anonymously vote for what they consider to be the best photographs. The winner will receive a £10 Garden Voucher.

The Theme will be: DROUGHT    Photo Size: 6 x 4 or 7 x 5 inches

National HPS Annual Lecture Day – Saturday, 10 September 2022:

We have been asked by HPS national to remind members about the HPS national Annual Lecture Day and AGM which you may already have seen in the recent HPS national newsletter. The first “in person” Annual Lecture Day with the HPS AGM for several years is being hosted by the Somerset Group on Saturday 10th September. The Somerset group has put a lot of time and effort into arranging a fabulous day for everyone and your support/attendance will be much appreciated. It is also a brilliant opportunity to listen to two interesting speakers, shop at the plant stalls and have an input into the Society at the same time as meeting old and new friends!
